The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria plays a crucial role in reinforcing foreign decision-making and implementation processes, as well as promoting Nigeria’s domestic vision and ideals globally. Established in 1960, shortly after Nigeria gained independence, the ministry was initially called the Department of External Affairs.
The ministry is headed by a federal executive cabinet minister, with Yusuf Tuggar currently serving as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Umar Dunoma Ahmed as the Permanent Secretary.
Its core functions include handling the country’s external relations, promoting economic cooperation, and providing diplomatic support to Nigerians abroad.
